Internal 500 Error

If there’s anything that a webmaster dreads, it’s the Internal 500 Error. Such an error leaves a visitor stuck on a page that they’re trying to access. When this happens, chances are, they’ll leave your site and look for the information they need elsewhere.

What is the Internal 500 Error?

This error usually pops up when the hosting server encounters an error and it can’t process the user request. It’s a general error code, so it can be caused by almost anything. But one thing’s for sure – the server can’t possibly handle the request because something’s wrong in the server. It’s a server-side problem so it isn’t because of the visitor’s internet connection or anything else.

How is it solved?

The common reasons for Internal 500 errors are due to some errors on the CGI script. Syntax error is the common culprit. Therefore, the best solution is to make sure that all your scripts are working correctly. Do a test run of everything and make sure that they are working as they should.

The second reason why Internal 500 Error occurs is because of permission issues. Solving this issue may entail trial and error. Try to find out which script triggers the error and go over the permissions on the CGI script involved. If all else fails, just try to copy the settings of the script that works and the problem should be solved.
